OASIS TO BE

Some plumbing fixtures got installed last Wednesday.  This weekend I will complete the carpentry on the tub surround ( a little bit o' bead board and bullnose to complete the soaking tub).  Take a look so far.....

5 FOOT BEADED WAINSCOTING

As soon as the floor had been tiled we were able to install the beaded wainscoting in the master bathroom.   It is a tongue and groove board we installed at 5 feet all around the bathroom.

A small board is attached to the wall at a level 5 foot height all around the room.

Individual boards are cut to size and have adhesive applied to the back

Using the nail gun, Michael attaches each board.

Michael fits the last 2 boards in the corner

A bullnose trim piece is attached to the top and the corner is complete

Upon completion, I was offered an assistant carpenter job by the contractor working on the addition.  Thanks but no thanks.  My Hawthorne house is a labor of love.

SHOWER TIME !

We've been working recently on the master bath.  Removing old flooring, replacing flooring, building walls, altering same walls,  moving same walls.  All this while hired contractors (HVAC, window, electrical, & plumbing) attempt to get their work done around us. It has been most challenging to the plumbing contractor who has had to move his shower pipes and drain more than once.  (Thank you James for the enormous amount of patience you've shown us.  Your work has been tip-top.  We promise not to move or rebuild another wall.)

This is the back wall of the walk in shower.  See the header and rectangle near the top.  This will hold a window
which came from the original carriage house (no longer standing) and allow light from the west into the space.

Wallace pulls up old flooring and prepares to replace with 3/4 ply in the shower stall.

Plumbing for the shower is in and the shower 'vestibule' is complete.  On the right is a
floor to ceiling wall and on the left is a knee wall separating the shower from the toilet.

Billye tests out the new plywood flooring and wonders,
"So, where is this shower you told me was up here?"

TOILETS AND TUBS AND TILE, OH MY

We've spent some time recently concentrating on bathrooms.  So many decisions to make!

Nickel vs. Chrome
Vintage vs. Modern
Round bowl vs. Elongated bowl
Tile vs. Bead board

Somehow my husband and I are finding some common ground.  Just 2 days ago, a local salvage company came by to pick up our claw foot tub and antique sink.  They will be sandblasted and powder coated and  brought back to life for another 100 years.

While contemplating bathroom decor, I must take into consideration the tiles I created in the studio.

They will be cut and arranged as some type of tile mosaic in the master bath.  Though originally inspired by Matisse, I'm still waiting to 'feel' in which direction this will go.
